Team NRI at the 2023 Special Olympics BC Games
This year NRI had the opportunity to sponsor and volunteer at the 2023 Special Olympics BC games. Our team spent the weekend interacting with athletes and their coaches while supporting the community of adaptive sports. Held in NRI’s hometown of Kamloops, BC, the event drew hundreds of athletes for eight winter sport games: bowling, snowshoeing, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, floor hockey, figure skating, and speed skating.

“Having the BC Special Olympics held in NRI’s hometown was such as treat as it allowed our always-ambitious team members to show up in significant numbers as volunteers. Working alongside others who share a similar passion for making a difference in the lives of others was incredibly rewarding. To top it off, one of NRI’s very own long-term employees was a competitor in the games which added even more to our excitement. The athletes’ determination, hard work, and positive attitudes were truly remarkable. Witnessing their excitement and joy at participating in the games, despite any challenges they may face, was humbling and motivating. Seeing the impact that our collective efforts had on the athletes, their families, and the wider community was truly heartwarming. The Special Olympics is a reminder that anything is possible with determination and support, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to have been a small part of such an inspiring and impactful event.” – Ryan Dale-Johnson, NRI VP Sales

Showing Support on and off the Field
NRI sponsored one of the opening ceremony receptions where our team had the chance to network and learn more about the athletes with a number of game organizers, coaches and other event sponsors. NRI also showed our support as volunteers at the snowshoeing race where our 20+ volunteers spent the day working as race timers, course marshals, fanatic cheerers, and medal presenters.

“Time well spent volunteering at the Special Olympics! The athletes were so inspiring, the comradery with co-workers and other volunteers was amazing and the overall energy left everyone leaving with a sense of community and accomplishment. What a privilege it was to support this incredible event!” – Dean Stainton, NRI VP of People Experience
