Behind the Brand
Manitobah is an Indigenous-founded footwear brand rooted in the traditions, artistry, and resilience of Indigenous culture. Founded in 1997, Manitobah began as a small business making mukluks and moccasins, inspired by generations of Indigenous knowledge and craftsmanship. Over the years, the brand has grown into a global name, sharing Indigenous design with the world while staying grounded in community values.
Their journey has always been guided by a commitment to cultural integrity and creative collaboration. Manitobah is proud to work with Indigenous artists and makers across Turtle Island to bring their stories to life through footwear, accessories, and seasonal collections. From the beginning, Manitobah has strived to walk in two worlds – blending tradition and innovation while creating pathways for Indigenous voices to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
At NRI, we’re proud to work with a brand whose values run deeper than business. Manitobah’s foundation in the Seven Grandfather Teachings – Love, Respect, Bravery, Truth, Honesty, Humility, and Wisdom – shapes every step they take. It’s visible in the way they build relationships with Indigenous artists, protect cultural stories, and create opportunities that uplift community. Every product carries intention. Every partnership carries meaning.
Empowering Indigenous Voices Through Partnership
Manitobah works in close partnership with independent Indigenous artists and communities to create meaningful, long-term impact. Through seasonal collaborations and their Artist Series designs, they provide platforms for artists to share their stories, designs, and cultural knowledge with a global audience. Artists are centered in every step of their creative process, from concept to final product.
Manitobah also invests in community through social impact initiatives like the Indigenous Market (100% of profits go back to the artist) and the Storyboot School, where traditional knowledge is passed on through intergenerational teaching through workshops like moccasin, mukluk and gauntlet making. Whether through co-designed collections or handmade items sold through Manitobah, every partnership helps foster cultural pride, economic opportunity, and deeper connections between culture and commerce.
Better Together
As a brand with seasonal peaks and a strong mission, Manitobah needed a fulfillment partner who could adapt quickly and operate reliably during their busiest times of year. At NRI, we’ve been proud to support their growth by providing flexible, responsive solutions that scale with demand – especially during critical periods like Black Friday.
“Black Friday is our busiest and most pivotal time of year, and while partnered with NRI, we hit the achievement of most units shipped in a single day ever. Being able to hit these targets means our customers are able to receive their orders with no delay during our busiest time of year.”
Our collaborative approach and consistent communication have helped create a seamless extension of their team, allowing them to stay focused on what matters most: building a global brand that supports and uplifts communities. It has been a partnership grounded in trust, adaptability, and shared values.
“NRI has been a key partner in our success since 2021. Knowing we have a strong fulfillment partner allows us to confidently focus on product design, marketing and our vision of building a vibrant, global brand that makes a positive impact in Indigenous communities. NRI aligns with our social values, making them more than just a logistics provider – they are a true extension of our brand.”
