The 2023, annual SIMA Waterman’s Weekend once again brought together ocean enthusiasts, conservationists, and industry leaders in a powerful display of support for marine ecosystems. With the event’s rich history of donating nearly $10 million to organizations dedicated to preserving our oceans, beaches, and waves, NRI was honored to join an exceptional cause.
The Waterman’s Ball at The Pasea Resort & Spa saw an enthusiastic crowd of 200+ people, together with a few of our esteemed clients including Reyn Spooner, Troy Lee Designs, Roark, Rip Curl, and Frankies Bikinis; as well as industry environmental education leader Derek Sabori of The Underswell.
One of the highlights of our weekend was contributing to the fundraising goal, along with our clients. Our table had a blast securing winning bids on several live and silent auction items. Witnessing our efforts make a significant impact was truly gratifying, knowing that our contributions will help support over a dozen ocean conservation groups.
While Waterman’s celebrated various award recipients, including the late Art Brewer’s Lifetime Achievement Award and French big-wave surfer Justine DuPont’s Waterperson of the Year honor, we were particularly inspired by Stokehouse founder Paul Naude’s major contribution to the mission. Paul’s dedication to the cause and the acknowledgment he recently received at Oceana’s Sea Change Summer Party further reinforced the importance of our collective efforts in safeguarding the marine environment. Additionally, Dr. Cliff Kapono’s recognition as Environmentalist of the Year resonated deeply with us, as his scientific and community-driven approach to ocean health aligns with our core values.
Despite the challenging current financial climate faced by many brands and supporters, witnessing the unwavering support from all attendees reinforced our belief in the strength of unity and purpose. We left the event with further inspiration toward environmental conservation. We look forward to continuing our support for initiatives like the SIMA Environmental Fund, and to further contribute toward the preservation and protection of our planet’s most precious resources.
